Paints & Mediums

These are the paints and mediums I use most often in my classes and studio. I keep a core limited palette that works for almost every project, and then sometimes add a few extra colors for variety. I’ve also included mediums that help with finishing and protecting your work.

My Core Limited Palette

These are my everyday, must-have colors — with them, I can mix almost anything I need.

💡 Tip: Sticking to a small palette makes color mixing easier to learn and keeps your supplies affordable.

Optional Add-On Colors

Sometimes a painting calls for an additional color outside my core limited palette. These aren't essential, but they're helpful for certain subjects and painting situations.

💡 Tip: Think of these as “bonus” colors — add them slowly as you discover your favorites.

Mediums I Use Most

Mediums are wonderful helpers in the studio. They can change the way paint flows, extend drying time, and help us manage the mixes on our palette. I like to keep just a couple of reliable mediums on hand that make painting smoother and give me more control without complicating the process.

💡 Tip: Start simple — one or two mediums are often all you need to make a big difference in how your paints behave.
